Entreprenuer - GCW

After graduating I found myself with limited opportunities to advance my business knowledge outside of entry level sales roles. So I decided to start my own small business so I could be exposed to and learn many of the skills I was interested in utilizing in a career. Such as: Marketing, Social Media, Graphic Design, Website Design, Blog Writing, SEO, New Product Launches, Compliance, Social Copy, Events, Consumer Education, etc.

This has led to learning the ability to self manage, juggle multiple projects at once, learn new skills and sharpen current skills. It has been a fantastic experience I have learned so much in my time running it, I have outsourced/automated the majority of the day to day task and I am able to focus on other projects like a career without distractions.

Readers Digest Article

November 2015

ON THEIR LAST DAY of summer break in August 2013, brothers Conner and Caleb Richey were at home in Enterprise, Alabama, when a huge crash reverberated through the two-story house.

Caleb, 19, who was playing video games downstairs, was certain that there had been a car accident on Highway 167, about 400 yards from the house. He ran upstairs and burst into Conner's room. "We have to get outside!" Caleb told his brother.

The two boys sprinted barefoot across the front yard and down a small wooded hill. When they emerged from the trees, they saw three vehicles--a red pickup truck, a black sedan, and a black tow truck--all of which had been struck. A man who looked shocked but uninjured sat on the bumper of the tow truck, which had veered off the road and into a ditch.

Conner and Caleb got to the sedan first. Smoke wafted from its mangled front end, and the driver was pinned in place by the collapsed dashboard and steering wheel. Blood covered his face, and his left arm was badly broken. "I don't know if he's going to live, but I have to do something, Conner, then 21, remembers thinking. He took off his T-shirt and pressed it against the man's bloody head. Caleb sprinted back home to grab a first-aid kit. He returned, gave the kit to his brother, and then borrowed an onlooker's cell phone to dial 911. Later, when emergency personnel arrived, they cut off the roof of the sedan, pulled out the trapped driver, and loaded him onto a helicopter bound for a nearby trauma hospital. "You probably saved his life, paramedics told Conner.

Meanwhile, Caleb rushed over to the pickup truck. When he peered through the windshield, he was surprised to see his father, Tim, inside. "It's Dad!" Caleb called anxiously to Conner. "This driver is Dad!" Conner ran to Caleb's side, and the boys tried to comfort their father.

"Stay with us, Dad; paramedics are here," the boys repeated. As firefighters used the Jaws of Life to cut Tim, 52, out of the pickup, Conner called their mother, Denine, who was at work at the county registrar's office. She arrived in time to ride in the ambulance with Tim. Conner drove Caleb and their sister Caroline, then 15, to Medical Center Enterprise, where doctors treated Tim for bone fractures to his vertebrae and knee, severely bruised ribs, and a right elbow contusion.

Tim recounted the crash to his family from his hospital bed. He had been waiting in a line of traffic to turn left into his driveway when he saw a tow truck quickly approaching in his rearview mirror. Seconds later, the wrecker, whose driver was later discovered to have been texting, slammed into the rear end of Tim's truck, sending it spinning into oncoming traffic. Tim then crashed head-on into a black sedan.

As the truck flipped, "it was just sky, ground, sky, ground, Tim says. After the accident, he wore a back brace for eight weeks and a leg brace for ten and completed two months of physical therapy.

The boys received an award from the Enterprise Chamber of Commerce in September 2014.
"I'm very proud of how my sons responded, says Tim.

"But I'm not surprised."

The boys say their father taught them to lend a hand. "Dad raised us to always help people in need, says Caleb. "This time that rule of thumb helped him too."

Dothan Eagle Hometown heroes - Ray of Hope Award article 2014

“Local brothers hailed as heroes after rushing to scene of wreck

Sep 21, 2014

Heroes Conner (left) and Caleb Richey received The Ray of Hope Award from the Enterprise Chamber of Commerce for heroic actions at a vehicle accident in November. Conner Richey, an airman in the Air Guard, also received the Alabama Air Guard State Heroism Medal.

On a rainy Tuesday in November 2013, the Richey brothers were all set to leave Enterprise for school at Auburn University.

But Conner Richey, then 21, had received a call from his Alabama Air Guard unit in Dothan, asking him to drop by and sign some papers in the morning. So, he and his brother, Caleb, then 19, decided to stay the night at their parents’ home in Enterprise, just off Highway 167.

It was a decision that may have saved lives.

Instead of heading back to Auburn that day, the brothers ended up rushing barefoot to help two men injured in a multiple-vehicle wreck just outside their home. One of those men turned out to be their father, Tim Richey.

The acts of heroism recently won the Richey brothers the Enterprise Chamber of Commerce’s Ray of Hope Award. Conner Richey also was awarded the Alabama Air Guard State Heroism Medal.

The brothers had been lounging in front of the TV when they heard what sounded like thunder or a gun shot outside. But when they went to check, they realized it was a wreck.

A dump truck had hit a pickup truck that was stopped to turn. The pickup truck was forced into oncoming traffic, and a passenger car was hit head on.

The brothers, who had served as Eagle Scouts and knew a few first-aid techniques, ran to the scene in their bare feet.

Conner Richey, who was also trained in medical techniques through the Air Guard, began performing life-saving measures on the sole occupant of the car while his brother called 911.

“It looked like the dashboard was in his stomach,” Conner Richey said of the man in the car. “He had multiple breaks, and his left arm was almost completely severed at the elbow.”

They first used their hands to stop the bleeding, and then a shirt. They also grabbed the trauma kits they’d been given by their father, Tim, when they graduated from high school.

While the Richeys worked on the man in the car, another man – who identified himself as a soldier or a former soldier-- stopped at the scene to help the driver of the pickup truck.

After the man in the car was stabilized, Caleb Richey ran to help the man in the truck. The truck had been turned on its side, and only the undercarriage was exposed to the Richeys.

When Caleb Richey went to the window of the truck, he realized it was his father, Tim.

“What are you doing here?” Caleb asked. Then he yelled to his brother: “Conner! That’s our dad in the truck!”

Tim Richey had broken his back during the accident, but was otherwise conscious and alert. The soldier had jumped in through the window of the truck to help him, before rushing over to help the brothers with the man in the car.

These days, both Tim Richey and the occupant of the other vehicle are doing well, the brothers said during a phone call from Auburn this week. They said their dad even went waterskiing a few weeks ago.

But the best part is that they were given the chance to help the man who had always taught them to help others.

“My dad taught us that if you see somebody in need of help, you help,” said Conner Richey.

Caleb Richey added: “It’s hard to explain the way our father is. When someone’s on the side of the road and needs help, he’s always going to stop.”

In the confusion, the brothers never got the name of the man who helped them at the scene of the wreck.

“We really want to say thank you to the man who helped us and helped our dad,” Caleb Richey said. “We’re still looking for him.”
